Before & After: Editing Dog Portraits

FAQ

“How much do you edit the photos?”

My job isn’t over when your portrait session ends. Part two of every portrait package includes a private proof gallery and then finishing the final edits on a client’s selected images.

Shortly after a session, I send my client their proofing gallery to select their favorite images. Since I’m delivering anywhere from 30-100+ images to review (depending on the package), I don’t do much editing at this stage. A proofing gallery is meant for you to select your favorite expressions and poses, without paying mind to the rest of the image.

Since the proofs aren’t edited, you’ll likely notice the following in some or all of the following:

  • Paw smudges on the backdrop

  • Human hands, feet, arms, etc

  • Studio lights

  • Treat crumbs (on backdrop or on your pooch)

  • Lighting + coloring that looks different from the rest of the website

But don’t worry! I’ll take care of all that in post-production and you probably won’t even remember them when you see your final portraits! Depending on the portrait, I spend anywhere from 5-45 minutes editing a single image.

Take a look at some before and after examples for how I edit portraits to give you an idea of how your pup’s portraits will be edited!
